Once your WordPress website has been installed and configured, you can follow this tutorial to learn how to create your first post in WordPress.

This tutorial explains how to create new posts on your WordPress website. First you need to log in your website’s admin panel and go to Posts -> Add New.

On this page you will see the WordPress posts editor.

The most important parts of this page are:

Post Title – enter the title of your post in this field. On your theme it will be shown above your content.

Post Content – you can use the WordPress WYSIWYG editor to add the actual content of your post. Note that it has two tabs – Visual (use the editor to format your text) and Text (add your HTML code directly). I would highly recommend that you use the Visual tab in the beginning unless you know how to write codes in HTML.

Also, never copy any content from Microsoft Word file, email or any other website directly in this Post Description panel. If you want copy something from any other source, first copy & paste the content in a plain notepad editor. Copy the content again from the notepad and then paste it in the WordPress editor. Usually, when you copy content from any source other than a simple notepad  that the extra code formatting from those source also gets copied. When you paste the content from any other source, all the unwanted code also gets copied in the WordPress editor.

After adding the Post Title and Post Description, you can select a category for your post. You can select an existing category or create a new category by clicking on the +Add New Category link. When you click on this link, you will get a text field where you can add your new category. After entring the new category, press Add New Category button below it.

Additionally for the post, you can also add a featured image. Click on the Set Featured Image link as shown in the screenshot above, a media library will open up which will have two options: select an existing image in the media library, or click on the Upload Files tab on the top left corner to upload an image from your computer.

It is best and recommended that you upload a .jpg file with a minimum width of 1260px – recommended by Google.

Once you have everything entered, you can publish the post by clicking on the Publish button on the right hand side panel.
