Step 1: Direction to access install theme functionality in your WordPress admin dashboard.
If you want to install a new WordPress theme, you need to login to your WordPress website admin page and then go to Appearance -> Themes.
Once the page opens up, you will see all the themes currently installed in your WordPress backend – this is called the Manage Theme Page. To change your WordPress theme, put your mouse cursor over the theme you like and then click on the Activate button.
Step 2: If you want to add a new theme, then click on Add New button on top.
There are two ways here to choose a theme: either browse through the themes suggested by WordPress.org or upload your own downloaded theme.
Browse through themes suggested by WordPress.org
When you click on Add New button, a page will open which will show you suggestions of themes from WordPress.org. You can browse through those to find a theme you like. You can also use the Feature Filter to narrow down the type of theme suggestions you want to see. Once you set the filter, then you can browse again for a theme you may like.
Once you find a theme you would like to use for your WordPress website, put your mouse cursor over the theme and click on the Install button.
WordPress backend will automatically download and install the theme for you. Once it does, a page will open up where you need to click on the Activate button.
Once done, your theme will be activated and you can go to the frontend to check the new design of your website. Don’t worry if your website frontend looks empty. That could be because you may not have created any page or post. Once your theme is activated, you will have to go to Appearance >> Pages >> Add New to create different pages for your website. Once you create your pages, you will have to go to Appearance >> Menu and those pages as menu items. Upload a theme that you have already downloaded and want to use as your WordPress theme
If you have downloaded a WordPress theme from somewhere or third-party theme provider, and want to install that theme – follow these steps. In step 1 and 2, we described how you need to go to the Manage theme page and click on Add New button. Once you have done this, you will see an option of Upload Theme button on top. Click on that button to install your downloaded theme.
On the next page, you will see two buttons: Browse and Install Now. First, you need to click on the Browse button and go to the location where your downloaded theme is located. Once you have selected your downloaded WordPress theme, you can click on the Install Now button.
In a few seconds, WordPress admin backend will upload and extract your theme for you. Once done, it will give you an option to Activate the theme under the message for successful theme installation. Click on the Activate button to finish the setup and select your theme as the frontend website design.
That’s about it! You can now go to the frontend of your WordPress website and see your newly activated theme. Follow the steps above to create pages and menu for your website.
